Location Sharing on Facebook Chat: How to Turn It On and Off

You will now be able to see all of your other friends who are currently using the feature. Each will be listed by location, showing their physical distance between you. The closest friends will be shown first and will be accompanied by a Facebook Messenger button which you can use to open up a chat with them.

how to enable location on facebook chat

Enabling or disabling chat heads is simple on Android. First, tap the profile icon in the top left to open the Settings menu. Next, locate "Chat Heads," then tap the slider to either enable or disable the feature. If you have any chat heads currently open, they will disappear if you disable the option here.

If you enabled them, when chat heads appear as overlays on your screen, tap on them to open up the overlay window with your conversation, where you can reply. When multiple chats happen, they are bundled on the same overlay icon, so tap that to choose which one you want to view. Anything else is fair game in this window, so you can add media and attachments to messages, change chat settings, make a call, view all of your chats, start a brand new chat, add to your story, and so on.

Essentially, end-to-end encryption adds another layer of security to your messenger chats. When you enable E2E encryption, only you and anyone involved in the chat can see the communication. That means anything you say cannot be intercepted by a third party and used against you.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that E2E encryption on Facebook Messenger, via a web browser, is done on a chat-by-chat basis. By default, at least within your web browser, all chats do not employ E2E encryption, so you have to enable it manually. If, on the other hand, you're using the Messenger app, all chats have E2E enabled by default.

For MacOS, you can install the Facebook Messenger app from within the App Store. For Windows, you can download the installer file and have the app running in no time. If you're on Linux, unfortunately, you're out of luck, as there is no Facebook Messenger desktop app (which is ironic, given how much open-source software Facebook depends on). However, on Linux, you can enable end-to-end encryption on a chat-by-chat basis in facebook.com in both Firefox and Chrome.

Open a chat with a friend, then tap the More button (four dots in a square) in the toolbar above the text field, and select Location. You may have to allow access to your location. From there, send your current location. Your friend will immediately get a map showing your exact location.

Open a chat and select the more option (four dots) to the left of the text field. There you'll see two rows of options, with the reminder marked by a bell in the top row. Click it, and you can select a name, time, and location for the reminder. Anyone in the chat with you will see the reminder.

WhatsApp also allows users to set a default time period for disappearing messages. If you enable this feature, all new chats will disappear after the time limit you choose. WhatsApp will display a message in your chats letting others know the default setting you picked. You can also switch back to non-disappearing messages or change the time duration.

As you learned in the previous tutorial, you can disable and turn off Facebook Chat sounds, which are enabled by default; when you do, Facebook will remember your preferences, and automatically apply them whenever you login to your account, even from another location, different browser, or other computer. The advantage of this approach is that you do not need to mute chat sounds whenever you use Facebook from another location, but the disadvantage is that you might not want your new chat messages to play a sound when you login to Facebook at work, but you may have a new chat sound play in the background when you are using Facebook at home. In this tutorial, we will show you how to re-enable and turn back on the new message sound for Facebook Chat, in just a few clicks.

If you look for "facebook", that collection encapsulates facebook-chat. So if you have a rule that allows "facebook", you will allow chat, and if you want to block it, the deny rule needs to be a higher order rule above that. If you allow "facebook-base", then you can deny facebook-chat in a rule below it. By default, interzone traffic will be denied unless you have an implicit-allow rule in your policy.

The internal browser on the PS3 does connect to Facebook, as you can tell above, but chatting is disabled. A lot of folks are actually suggesting that you can simply visit the mobile Facebook page at m.facebook.com and chat will miraculously appear.

Make sure that you have enabled Facebook chatting, which you can do from your laptop or desktop at anytime. Simply click on a friend and then click inside the chat bubble to open up the PS3 keyboard. Type whatever you want and then hit little play button in the bottom right corner to send it.

Facebook Messenger is a mobile app that enables chat, voice and video communications between the social media site's web-based messaging and smartphones. (Specific capabilities vary according to the user's device and geographic location.) Messenger is available for iOS, Android, Windows 10 and Blackberry devices and can connect through Wi-Fi or a mobile data plan.

When we use Facebook-Chat in a web page, the web client will open multiple sessions towards the server. Since Facebook integrated chat and messages into one service, half of the sessions will have a chat structure and the other half will have a mail structure. So in order to successfully and consistently block Facebook chat, you need to block both facebook-chat and also facebook-mail applications.
