I purchased a Dell laptop with windows 8 pre-installed. Then I upgraded it to windows 8.1 by Windows App Store, everything is fine. Now accidentally I updated the product key (invalid one) and windows got deactivated. Now I want to activate the Windows 8.1, I have genuine Windows 8 OEM key (found using get_win8key program from BIOS). I don't want to Go by installing Windows 8, then upgrading it windows 8.1 then installing all my software again as suggested by Dell. As at the time of upgrade It didn't ask for product key and I assume that program read the key from BIOS itself and Windows 8.1 is activated, so there should be equivalent key to be used to activate windows 8.1 again. Please suggest.

Question out of left field here: Can this come down to DNS issues? This domain happens to be running in an accidentally over-subscribed virtualisation infrastructure. CPU Ready Time is at least 1500ms most of the time. Could it be that during the activation process a DNS request is sent, the DNS server doesn't respond within 2 seconds (due to CPU Ready Time) and so the activation fails?

It's entirely possible that the activation of a different server I tried just happened to be at a time where CPU Ready Time was low enough for the DNS request to be responded to in a timely manner. Thoughts?

Hi, I upgraded from win 7 pro to 10. My laptop worked fine for weeks, then refused to start windows one morning. I tried the repairs available (advanced options, etc). I then downloaded the ISO file for win 10, that contains all the win 10 versions, I retrieved the win 10 pro product key from my drive, but during the win 10 installation it says the the key is invalid. A product riddled with problems.When an update of windows TEN is done,some of my progremmes simply disappear.On windows 8 I never had any problems whatsoever.The latest problem .I cannot link to my printer. Got an expert in at great cost,he managed the link but as soon as the computer is switched off,that`s it,no more link.My ONLY alternative now is to go back to windows 8 until your team sort out all the crap on the system.

question then say that i have 2 desktops and 3 hard drives all of them have windows and i take harddrive 3 and make it windows 10 from windows 7 on computer b and then go to computer a and launch the hardrive on it useing its windows 10 why does it now say windows 10 is not activated because that happened to my 1tb that is windows 10 home please help

I previously had a windows 7 home premium original copy which I did bought spending my money. It worked well. After win 10 launch I could successfully upgrade to windows 10 and the copy got activated automatically. There were talks around saying Microsoft is giving away free windows activation this time. So i made a USB copy of windows 10 PRO in to my flash drive and I DID A CLEAN INSTALL FROM THAT VERY COPY. Now I have Windows 10 PRO not activated. I cannot activate this using my windows 7 home premium product key. PLEASE HELP!

All things considered, when you get the 0xc00007b error, it generally means that some file in either the startup or activation process is corrupted. Not knowing exactly what your system configuration is, there is really no way to help you diagnose the problem. By this I mean the hardware configuration AND the software configuration.

Exactly where in the process did you receive this error? During the actual upgrade? During the reboot after the upgrade? When you tried to enter an activation key? After you entered an activation key? Where?

Dont know if anyone has had the issue: Existing 2012 R2 KMS server with WOLUME_KMS_WS12_R2 Channel as the installed key. Workinf fine. Deployed patch KB3058168 and rebooted. You can download Windows 8 or 8.1 from Windows legally as long as you have a genuine product key. Go to -gb/software-download/windows8 and download the media creation tool + ISO (if you cannot download through this website then let me know and I will direct you to other links). You will have to do this from a friend's computer. Remember to backup all your files before formatting the drive.

I'm getting the below error code 0x80072F8F when trying to activate the windows (Windows server 2008 R2). Though i tried the following methods to resolve the issue unfortunately issue remains the sameMethod 1: I checked the date, time, year in BIOS and on windows as well and they were accurate. @Mohammed ShahedI know this thread is pretty old but I'm hoping that this may help someone. I had the same error on Windows Server 2008 R2 activation. Plus I had many other certificate errors when browsing websites. The solution was download the Microsoft update for the Windows Root Certificate Program.

The Windows activation error code 0x80072f8f usually occurs while updating, when the computer is trying to connect to the online activation service, or when the product key is not verified during activation. When the error appears during Windows installation, it could indicate that the computer settings were found invalid during the verification.

Windows activation error code 0x80072f8f could be caused by time and date misconfiguration. The Windows server validates the PC's time and date when activating Windows. However, if the time and date are extremely far from the server time and date, it will throw a Windows activation Error 0x80072f8f.

The above command is used to reset your Windows license status to zero so that all your previous and old expired licenses linked to your system will be removed, and a new license key can be added for activation.

After you've successfully performed a Home-to-Pro upgrade, you can file that product key away. Your upgrade is now a digital license, attached to your unique hardware. If you perform a reinstallation of Windows, Microsoft's activation servers will recognize the hardware and activate Windows 10 automatically.
